Hey everyone,
Thanks for stopping by! And a huge thank you to all the lovely people who subscribed to the site before the launch. The giveaway winner is announced below. I’m excited to start sharing more of the world of brush lettering with you.
About me
My name is Rim Jawad and I’m 27 years old (not the most important piece of information I guess but I do get questions about my age), I live in Stockholm Sweden. I am currently doing research on tumor biology and on my free time I hoard brush pens and create lettering and calligraphy.
The journey
In 2015 I found Instagram accounts devoted to calligraphy and lettering and I fell in love with the art. I never tried it for myself until I was gifted a big set of brush pens and lettering supplies (apparently I had been talking about the Tombow Dual Brush pens that I’d seen many use on Instagram one to many times!). So by September 2015 I started learning how to use the pens and found new friends in the lettering community all over the world.
My promise to you
With creating this blog I wanted to help you get started with brush lettering. I will share some of the things I’ve found helpful along the way and little tips and tricks to improve the learning process. Every Sunday I’ll share a new blog post answering your questions and teaching you what you need to know.
Everything from how to hold the brush pen to creating wreaths to embellish your lettering.
Our Giveaway winner is…

Hi, Congratulations on your new blog! Just like you, I fell in love with Calligraphy from the time I saw it in Instagram last year. I kept this interest of mine hoping that one day I will have my C.set and start doing it someday. I told my husband about it since I came from the Philippines 4 months ago to be with him. So 2 days ago he bought me a book, Calligraphy paper, and brush pens (tombow) for a beginner like me. And on that same day I saw your tips on Instagram. It’s beautiful and I started following you. I find it helpful in my calligraphy journey. I tried my first calligraphy lettering but I find it quite difficult on how to hold the brush properly (maybe) and my very concern is the thin upstroke and thick downstroke. Even if I watched your 10 tips the outcome is not that good. The strokes are quite on the same size. Hope to hear from you and learn from you. I do practice as what you said. Practice makes perfect! π Thank you and Have a good day!
Hey Lyan
That’s so exciting! I’m so happy you got your own set, what a nice gift π I’m very glad you found my IG and the site, I hope it will benefit you during the coming months.
It is very hard top have good control with your thin strokes in the beginning, don’t worry about it it takes time. You won’t feel that you’re improving when you’re practicing but trust me you are. 5 minutes a day is better than two hours every other week. Try to squeeze in some alone time where you’re able to practice the calligraphy strokes. Don’t be afraid to write words even though you’re still learning the thick and thins. Do a sheet of drills, thick and thin, every day and then end your practice session with writing a word. Write the date on the top of the page and save it in a folder. It will be nice to look back at in a few weeks to see your progress
Good luck and let me know how it’s going for you!
